Tea is the world’s most consumed beverage. All the tea comes from a Camellia sinensis plant. Based on the type of tea leaves selected and the oxidation or processing stage, tea is categorized into six different types: Black, Green, Oolong, White, Fermented and Yellow.

As we all know more on green tea that is filled with antioxidants and nutrients which have powerful effects on the body. Let’s know about the other types of tea. Each type of tea has its own flavor and health benefit. Read down to see our list of tea varieties.

Black Tea

Black tea, the most flavorful tea is oxidized for longer than their green and oolong equivalents, providing stronger aromas and tastes. Anticipate full-bodied, flavor and colors from black to dark red. Some reports have shown that black tea can minimize control cholesterol, stroke risk, and reduce blood pressure.

Oolong Tea

Oolong tea is made from the same plant that produces black and green tea, however black tea is fully oxidized and green tea is not oxidised, oolong is semi-oxidized and then formed to give it its distinctive form. Oolong could be greenish or brownish in color, and the differences in flavors are large. Some studies have found that oolong tea may help lower risk of diabetes. Also, a range of antioxidants come with it.

White Tea

White tea is not oxidised like green tea. However white teas are usually seen as having a milder, more sweet flavor than black or green tea. Expect a dim yellowish color. White tea is best consumed with absolutely no additives. Its antioxidants have a variety of benefits from improved  skin to cell production and it may help in cardiovascular health.

Fermented tea

Fermented teas are a grade of teas that have been fermented in the open-air, from several months to many years. The exposure of tea to micro flora, oxygen and humidity in the air leads to further oxidation by fermentation, auto-oxidation, and probably those reactivated oxidative enzymes in the tea. It changes the tea’s smell, and generally smooths its savor, transforming initially bitter teas into products which are thick and greasy with pleasing mouth feeling and aroma.

Yellow tea

Yellow tea typically involves a special tea that is handled identical to green tea but with a slower drying period, where the leaves of damp tea are made to sit. The tea usually looks very yellow-green, and tastes a bit  different from both green tea and white tea. If the tea is cured with other herbs, the aroma is often incorrect for black but similarities in taste may still be found between white, yellow, and green teas. Moreover, it can also identify the high-quality teas served at the Imperial Court, although this may relate to any type of imperial-served tea.
